Project Title: SuProM, Sustainable project management in Balkan HEIs
Project description: SuProM aims to enhance sustainable project management skills of university staff, and to align these competencies with labor market needs, and to strengthen cooperation and project management capacities within Western Balkan universities, fostering international partnerships and long-term sustainability.
It responds to recent educational reforms that have highlighted a lack of project management expertise among university staff. By providing specialized training and introducing courses in sustainable project management, the project aims to strengthen the capacity of local universities for international collaboration and sustainability. It is structured in three phases: analysis of current practices, provision of training, and integration of sustainable project management into university curricula.

ACTIVITY 1:
Kick-off: University of Ljubljana, Slovenia January 29-31, 2025
Improving project management processes: the launch of the SuProm project
In January 2025, the partners of the newborn EU project SuProM met in the beautiful setting of Ljubljana, Slovenia, to kick-start work.
The University of Ljubljana, the project coordinator, warmly welcomed all the partners: University of Palermo, CESIE and UNIMED from Italy, University of Elbasan ‘Aleksander Xhuvani’, University of Vlores and University Fan S. Noli Korçë from Albania, University of Tuzla and University of Mostar from Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The project addresses the urgent need to improve sustainable project management skills in Western Balkan universities, following a recent higher education reform that revealed skills gaps among academic staff and students. In Albania and Bosnia and Herzegovina, the authorities have encouraged international cooperation through university consortia and joint projects with global partners. However, staff often report inadequate project management skills within administrative teams and limited sustainable management skills across the workforce. This initiative aims to fill these gaps by providing targeted training and integrating sustainable project management into university curricula.

ACTIVITY 2:
2nd Project Partner Meeting: SuProM Partners meet in Elbasan, to drive the next phases of the project, “Aleksander Xhuvani” University, October 22, 2025
On 22 October 2025, SuProM Project partners met at the University of Elbasan “Aleksandër Xhuvani” for the second Consortium Meeting.
As the project moves through Work Package 3 (WP3), the meeting took place just the day before the SuProM Project Management Training, also hosted at the University of Elbasan.
Partners reviewed progress and discussed key developments as the project nears its first year. Partners finalised details for the Elbasan event and began planning the next training session, which will take place in Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina, early next year.
They also discussed how to strengthen project management capacity by developing new project management courses in higher education institutions in Albania and Bosnia and Herzegovina, as set out in WP4 and WP5.
Finally, partners addressed dissemination and exploitation strategies. In today’s digital world, visibility is essential. The consortium therefore committed to sharing SuProM’s activities and results more widely, to reach more beneficiaries and extend the project’s impact beyond its lifetime.
