The project is a direct response to the challenges of sustainable project management in the region and to a recent reform of the higher education
system in the Western Balkans, which recognized the problem of project management capacities of higher education staff and students. Currently,
higher education authorities in Albania and Bosnia and Herzegovina are pushing universities towards internationalization, mainly through the
formation of consortia and the implementation of joint projects with international partner universities. When applying for and managing international
projects, HEI staff complain about insufficient knowledge and skills of support staff and note a lack of sustainable project management skills in the
labor market. This project aims to systematically support higher education institutions in the Western Balkans to improve their knowledge on project
management issues and increase their support skills by developing and delivering project management training for higher education staff and
introducing sustainable project management courses in higher education institutions. The project consists of three phases: Phase 1 – Analyzing project
management processes in higher education institutions; Phase 2 – Engaging different stakeholders in higher education community through the delivery
of project management training; Phase 3 – Deepening project management capacity by introducing sustainable project management courses into the
higher education program.
