“FAN S. NOLI” UNIVERSITY IN COOPERATION WITH THE UNIVERSITY OF TIRANA ORGANIZED THE INTERNATIONAL SCIENTIFIC CONFERENCE “LANGUAGE POLICIES ON MINORITIES IN THE BALKANS: ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERSPECTIVES”

“Fan S. Noli” University in cooperation with the University of Tirana organized the International Scientific Conference “Language Policies on Minorities in the Balkans: Achievements and Perspectives”, which was held on November, 12th, 2021 at “Fan S. Noli” University.

The conference was organized by the Department of Language and Literature of “Fan S. Noli” University in collaboration with the Department of History and Philology of University of Tirana.In the plenary session, in his opening speech, the rector of “Fan S. Noli” University emphasized the importance of this conferece as it brought together the best specialists of this study field who will be able to conclude the conference with concrete conclusions for other projects in the future related to lingustic policies on minorities in the Balkans.

The plenary session was proceeded with the speech of prof. Fernando Ramallo (online from Spain) on the topic: “The relevance of the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages for the protection of minority languages in the Balkans” and with the speech of prof. Kostas Dinas (online from Greece) on the topic “The Linguistic diversity in the Balkans: a blessing or a problem?”

After the plenary session, the conference continued in three parallel sessions:

I- Language policy for national minorities and language planning;

II-Languages in contact;

III- Language varieties, language in use and problems of education.
