"Fan S. Noli" University is a public institution of higher education, located in the heart of southeastern Albania, in the city of Korçë.
The university was established by the Decision of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Albania No. 5, dated January 7, 1992, on the basis of the Higher Agricultural Institute (ILB), founded in 1971. In 1994, by decision of the Council of Ministers, it was officially named “Fan S. Noli” University of Korçë, in honor of the distinguished Albanian statesman, cleric, and scholar. The university began its academic activity in January 1992, with three founding faculties: the Faculty of Agriculture, the Faculty of Education, and the Faculty of Economics. On December 18, 2001, the President of the Republic at the time, Mr. Rexhep Mejdani, awarded Fan S. Noli University the Golden Order “Naim Frashëri”.
During the 2009–2010 academic year, a branch of the university was opened in the city of Pogradec, offering a study program in Tourism, which operated until 2014.
In the 2011–2012 academic year, the Faculty of Education was restructured into two separate faculties: the Faculty of Natural and Human Sciences, and the Faculty of Education and Philology.
Since the 2012–2013 academic year, Fan S. Noli University has been organized into four faculties: Faculty of Agriculture, Faculty of Education and Philology, Faculty of Economics, Faculty of Natural and Human Sciences.
On May 18, 2015, the President of the Republic at the time, Mr. Bujar Nishani, honored the university with the Golden Order “Honor of the Nation”.
Today, "Fan S. Noli" University stands as the largest educational, cultural, and scientific center in the Korçë region and beyond.
The university maintains over 120 active cooperation agreements with educational and non-educational institutions, both in Albania and abroad. Through these partnerships, UNIKO promotes academic exchange programs for staff, researchers, and students, and actively participates in joint scientific projects, conferences, seminars, and other academic initiatives — all aimed at the continuous enhancement of educational quality and institutional development.
